Stara pesma

The fruit-growing region of Bajina Bašta, nestled on the hills and slopes of the Povlen and Tara mountains, possesses exceptional natural advantages for the production of high-quality fruit. The moderate continental climate with large differences between day and night temperatures has a beneficial effect on the aroma of the fruit.
Many centuries ago, the Ilić family arrived in one of the most beautiful villages, the village of Pepelj, located on the slopes of the mountain beauty Tara. They quickly realized the natural advantages of fruit growing. The specific climate – southern slopes unselfishly caressed by sunlight all day long – yielded fruits containing high amounts of sugar, while the proximity of the forest gave them a specific aroma. The cold water from a spring called Zmajeva Voda (Dragon's Water) brought a special freshness to the fruit trees, making their fruits larger and sweeter than others. From such fruits, old masters made a drink that was served only on rare occasions and to chosen guests. Barrels made of centuries-old oak gave it a perfect sound.
